Aussies Struggle at Sudirman Cup
The Australian Badminton Team have found the going tough at the Sudirman Cup, the world badminton mixed teams Championships. The Aussies were drawn in Group 3, and pooled with India, Scotland and Ukraine. The much improved India were the first team the Aussies took on in the event. India proved too strong for the Aussie team and the Aussies lost 4 matches to 1. The second tie against Scotland was no better. Scotland proved for too strong for the underpowered Aussies, and won the tie 5 matches to 0. Yesterday afternoon, the Aussies played their final pool match against the Ukraine. Australia got off to a great start when Kate Wilson-Smith and Ben Walklate winning the opening mixed doubles match. The Ukraine team fought back to take a 2-1 lead by winning both of the singles matches. The Aussies levelled the tie when Ben partnered with Glenn Warfe and won the mens doubles. The mixed doubles was a close 3 set match which ultimately say the Ukraine team win that match and the tie 3 matches to 2 Today (3pm local time) the Aussies take on Sweden in the playoff for 7th and 8th in Group 3. A win today will see the Australian team finish 23rd in the 2009 competition. You can see the scores live by clicking on the link below. Go Aussies
